Canada Day Fireworks

  • Cow Island Portland, Ontario (map)

Start the summer off with a bang! Our annual fireworks display begins at dusk from Cow Island. Watch the show from Hanna Park or the Portland community docks, or from your boat anchored near Cow Island.

Donations to support the fireworks show are gratefully accepted. Donations canisters will be posted at local businesses or can be made online.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Heritage Canada for their generous grant this year, which helps to support our fireworks show.

Rain Date: Sunday July 2nd

Can you help?

We're asking for some volunteer support from our members in staging our amazing fireworks show this Canada Day:

Before the Fireworks
July 1st, from 10 AM to 2 PM. We need a group of 8-10 volunteers on Cow Island. Bring electric battery powered drills, with back up chargers, if possible. Wear safety gloves. Under the supervision of the Pyrotechnician Mike Fraser, we'll be moving the firing canisters out of the shed to the launch area and setting them in the ground.

During the Fireworks
Arrive before sunset. We need 2 fire pickets to monitor the event, identify any minor fires caused by the sparks and operate the fire pump to extinguish any fires. These volunteers should be comfortable surrounded by noise and flashing lights, and we ask them to bring ear mufflers, helmets and safety gloves, if possible.

After Fireworks Cleanup
July 2nd, starting at 10 AM, we ask for another 8-10 volunteers to remove all the refuse and spent cartridges from the fireworks, and return the firing canisters to the shed. Work gloves are a must as this will be messy.

If you're able to help out with any of these roles, please contact Rod Howes at 613-790-0510 or rod@thehowesgroup.com.
